Does a great job for somebody on the go!
I bought this for my son who is an over the road truck driver. He was a bit skeptical at first but it has exceeded both of our expectations. The info on this pan says that it takes 10 + min per 8 oz. of food but he called me the first time he used it and had heated an entire 18 oz. can of Progresso chicken sausage gumbo in about 6-8 minutes. He has figured out that if he has the truck running (slightly more oomph to the outlet) he can even bring water to a boil and cook pasta. Last night was spaghetti in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Though he would prefer a microwave, this will do the trick until he has a truck with an inverter and microwave. He plans on trying the skillet and we will rate it later. Well worth the money. I would recommend this to anyone on the road who doesn't want to eat out constantly. He puts some water in the pan when done cooking and lets the water get hot while he eats. Then he is able to easily clean the pot.
Works fine
Heats soup very well. I've scrambled eggs with no problem. It will heat water to the verge of boiling (tiny bubbles). Heats faster when I wrap a towel around it to help hold in the heat.
I've been using it for 3 years. I immersed it a couple times cleaning it. That eventually caused the connections at the element to rust. It's easy to take apart and clean those connections. I don't recommend this unless you know what you're doing. It's not difficult but if you don't know which end of the screwdriver how to use, the results could be very dangerous.
The only real downside to this product is that it's not non stick. Eggs stick to it like nobody's business. However, cleanup is as easy as putting in 2 cups of water and letting it heal up. The stuck on food will soften up and wipe right out.
Fast Food Eliminator
I use this almost daily for weeks at a time, and I love this product so much! It has saved me so much money because I no longer need to buy fast food. Here is a list of things I like to cook in it. Pasta Roni, Mac N Cheese, Lipton Sides Pasta Packets, Tuna Helper, boxed scallop potatoes, powder mashed potatoes, All kinds of different plain pasta noodles with Jar Sauce, Oat Meal, and even fried spam slices in it. This unit can fry things but space is very limited for frying. Also I notice when following cooking directions, I some times have to add up 10 more mins of cooking time. But for running off of 12 volts I feel that's acceptable.
*******UPDATE 5-09-13
Had to take apart bottom piece (easy only 1 screw to remove) and remove a clip that connects the power cord to internal coil and connect directly to coil bypassing the clip. For some reason with the clip the wire would over heat fray and disconnect (since all metal parts not much of fire hazard however like with cooking...
