Presto 85851 Stirring Popcorn Maker Cover and Serving Bowl

411 grams, not the 313 of the original bowl (sturdier!!)
I love the popcorn popper, but the bowl mine came with was flimsy and cracked within a week of buying it. But the popper makes great popcorn, and there was no reasonably priced alternative. What to do? Buy another bowl. Heck, buy two!

So I did, thinking that the new bowl was destined to destruct as quickly as the old one. But I was wrong. The difference? Different bowls.

I could feel the difference in weight when I picked this one up. But was my mind playing tricks on me? There was one way to check: put them on the digital kitchen scale. So I did.

This new bowl weighs 31% more than the old bowl--411 grams, instead of the 313 grams of the original bowl. That makes it much stronger, and much less likely to crack. Time of course will tell (and I will update this review as required).

Fifteen dollars is a lot for a replacement part on a cheap popcorn popper. But what you are getting is the bowl that should have come with the popper...

I bought this popcorn popper because I liked the useability and am satisfied with how it functions. The bad is the thin cover/bowl cracked upon the first time of use. Then presto says that the cover/bowl has been discontinued (what's with that). Yes Amazon has them for $15.00 plus change and shipping.. if they are going to be, the (cover/bowl) that fragile I would hope the price would be less expensive... cause you know you're going to be buying several

Great heavier plastic replacement cover
The cover to our popcorn popper had cracked and eventually a chunk fell out which caused popcorn to escape during popping. I ordered this replacement and was pleased to find it is a much heavier plastic than the original. It will probably outlast the actual popper.
